Time seems to move faster each month! We are fully into the swing of things, and the guides are amazed daily by how quickly the children are developing and internalising new skills.

We began March by celebrating Girl's Day, where we tested our paper-folding skills to create princes and princesses.

What started as one child mentioning that she missed her grandma and grandpa, our letter-writing project was educational as well as exciting!  Children chose their recipients and decorated cards; our older students sounded out words to write their own messages, while the younger children watched as the guides wrote out theirs. We then walked to the post office, practiced asking for stamps in Japanese ("Kitte o kudasai"), and finally dropped the letters into the post box. It was a wonderfully deliberate activity giving us a taste of delayed gratification!

All of us at Dandelion love food (and the smell of any food being prepared!) With a new toaster in the classroom, the children enjoyed making toast with jam hearts. This sparked curiosity about how the scent of toast travels throughout the building! What do you do when your mom has too many strawberries in the fridge? You bring them to school and ask if we can make strawberry jam to have on crackers for snack! Our homemade jam was delicious!

Our daily helpers lay the table for lunch and now they have another big task. They help to prepare snack for us all. They are very proud of the broccoli and cheese and mini rolls they have prepared so far. This love of food has even influenced our writing practice, as we record the names of the snacks we make—"brocli and chiz" remains a favorite!

We do much more than just cook our favourite foods at Dandelion! Recently, we all enjoyed welcoming our parents into our special space to show them all our favourite activities. We showed them around and gave them lessons, gently guiding them to push in chairs and to walk around mats!

As April approaches, we look forward to spotting dandelions in the park and observing our changing outdoor environment.
