October seemed to fly by so quickly! The days of taking blocks of ice to the park were quickly replaced by days requiring jackets. We have been finding bright yellow leaves in the park, which inspired us to do some painting with fall colours.
We celebrated Jyugoya, a time to admire the full autumn moon. We learned about the rabbit on the moon, according to Japanese folklore! We were gifted Japanese pampas grass and beautiful yellow chrysanthemums, as round as the moon, to share, and we made sweet potato dango (Japanese dumplings usually made from rice flour) to enjoy as a snack.
It was a pleasure to spend time with you at our Learning Conferences, and we hope you gained insights into how your children are spending their days at Dandelion. It was also helpful for us to learn how your children are enjoying their time at home with you!
Now that we've all settled back into our school routines, we've been focusing on foundational skills that will be essential as the children engage in longer activities across various areas at Dandelion. Our younger children are preparing for more independent learning by practising Practical Life activities such as pouring, folding, and using scissors safely and accurately. The older children are learning how to braid and sew, and we have additional activities ready for them as they gain confidence in these skills.
Before the Autumn break, we planted radish and wildflower seeds. We're excited to report that they sprouted over our week away! We're hopeful that we'll soon have flowers to add to your donations for flower arrangements in the classroom and some healthy snacks to enjoy.
