Our recent days at the park have focused on nature exploration, particularly collecting beautiful leaves and acorns. We learned that acorns grow on oak trees, not "acorn trees," and explored the many varieties of oak trees and their leaves, especially looking at those found here in Tokyo. We discussed how animals help transport and plant acorns, finding it quite amusing that they sometimes forget where they’ve hidden them! A bit like all of us, guides included!

We had a fun trip to Ichinohashi Park, enjoying the long slide and climbing the frames and hill. Despite having a snack as soon as we got there, all the activity made us very hungry by lunchtime.

Thank you for the generous book donations that helped us launch our Free Little Library. We hope this library will build connections within our neighbourhood and foster a love of reading in all children. Please feel free to look through the collection and find a book or two that can find a place in your libraries at home. Some of us have been making bookmarks in the classroom after finding out that they are actually helpful as well as being pretty! You can use them to keep your spot in the book in case you can't finish the book in one sitting, as we do when we read chapter books at school.
With the relatively mild weather, we have been busy in the garden. We pulled out old plants and have planted and sprouted radish and wild flower seeds. We enjoy spending time watering everything, sometimes with a little too much enthusiasm!

Last Spring, we were given some worms to start some worm composting. Our worms live indoors, and the "worm tea" collected from their bucket is diluted and used to feed our garden plants. Now that the garden has been cleaned up, we added a worm pot to one of our growing boxes. Making the bedding was a great experience. We enjoyed wetting shredded newsprint, adding soil and eggshells, and finally settling the worms into their new home. We hope they enjoy it and help add nutrients to our soil!
Finally, the taco cups we made and enjoyed together were very popular. We look forward to more food preparation activities in the coming weeks.
